Disc Mulcher

Frequently Asked Questions

The VDX is a disc mulcher for excavators, built for jobs where speed and efficiency matter more than a fine finished product. The hinged door allows bidirectional feeding and snipping, so an operator can fell, process and sweep material without repositioning the machine as often.

Two. The VDX36 has a 36 inch cutting width and weighs 2,965 lbs, and the VDX52 has a 52 inch cutting width and weighs 3,675 lbs. The VDX36 is rated for 15 ton and larger excavators, while the VDX52 is rated for 18 ton and larger machines.

The VDX36 needs a minimum of 32 GPM and the VDX52 needs a minimum of 42 GPM. Both models call for at least 4,000 PSI. The VDX36 runs an 80cc bent axis Rexroth motor and the VDX52 runs a 107cc bent axis Rexroth motor.

It gives you three working modes. Hinged open is versatile for processing standing and felled material using left and right swing. Hinged closed contains the cutting chamber, which improves finished material and limits debris dispersion. Removing the door entirely is best in open areas where raw production is the priority.

The VDX36 carries 10 top knives, 8 edge knives and 8 single point carbides on the bottom. The VDX52 carries 16 top knives, 12 edge knives and 12 single point carbides. Replacement knives, carbides, bushings and bolt kits are all stocked as wear parts.

Four main ones. Top down feeding uses the bottom of the disc on standing trees or brush piles. Bottom up feeding cuts through the stem and lets gravity feed it into the disc. Snipping works down a tree from the top in stages. Left and right sweeping fells stems, then mulches ground vegetation.

The VDX uses an elastomeric coupler between the disc and the hydraulic motor to absorb shock loads, plus a robust bearing carrier housing a heavy duty bearing on an oversized shaft. An integrated pusher pad with rake style teeth also lets you move felled material and brush piles without swapping attachments.
