Tree Shear Forestry Attachment
Fecon offers single knife or dual knife Bunching Shears for skid steers, compact track loaders, and excavators from mini excavators upward, to nimbly shear, lift, bunch, and carry multiple trees with a single attachment. Fecon has designed models for excavators 7-10 ton which require as little as 15 gpm of Low Flow Hydraulics. Our Tree Shears are ideal for reaching up and down slopes and areas that are otherwise inaccessible. Excavator models are equipped with a Fecon “H” mounting bracket and a bolt-on hanger bracket sized to your machine. Skid steer models use a standard quick-attach plate, including a dedicated Bobcat setup.

Fecon builds tree shears for skid steers and compact track loaders, and for excavators. The mounting is different on each: skid steer models use a standard quick-attach plate, and excavator models use a Fecon ‘H’ bracket with a bolt-on hanger sized to your machine. A conversion kit is available if you need to move a shear between carriers.
Hydraulic flow, not horsepower
This is the one people get wrong. The skid steer models run on 15 to 23 GPM, and excavator models start as low as 15 GPM, which means low flow hydraulics are enough. You do not need a high flow machine to run a tree shear the way you do for a mulcher. Check your auxiliary circuit before anything else.
Cut capacity against your stems
The shear is rated by the largest stem it will cut in a single squeeze. Both current models, the FBSD1500SS and the Bobcat Setup version, cut up to 15 inches in diameter and run on 15 to 23 GPM. Size to the biggest tree you cut regularly, not the biggest you have ever seen. Hardwood cuts smaller than softwood at the same rating, so if you are working oak or hickory, leave yourself margin.
A note on reach
This is where an excavator earns its money. A shear on an excavator boom reaches up a slope, down into a gully or across a ditch without the machine leaving level ground. A skid steer shear is faster on flat, open ground where you can drive stem to stem. Neither is better. They suit different sites, and the choice usually comes down to terrain rather than tree size.
What Operators Use a Tree Shear For
A tree shear is the tool when you need stems cut and moved rather than ground into mulch. It leaves a clean low stump, it holds what it cuts, and it lets one operator fell, bunch and stack without leaving the cab.
Forest thinning and fuels reduction, where selective removal matters more than speed and the material needs stacking rather than scattering.
Right of way maintenance along roadsides, powerlines and pipelines, where reach from an excavator boom keeps the machine on the shoulder.
Land clearing and site prep, where stems come out first and a forestry mulcher follows to deal with what is left.
Storm damage and hazard tree removal, where holding the stem while it is cut is a safety feature rather than a convenience.
Pasture and fence line reclamation, cutting encroaching stems back to a clean edge without disturbing the soil.

A tree shear closes a hydraulic jaw and squeezes through the stem with a hardened steel knife, then holds the tree so you can lift and stack it. A tree saw cuts with a spinning disc, which handles larger single stems and harder wood but does not grip what it cuts. Shears are faster on small and medium stems and can bunch several at once.
