Frequently Asked Questions
For a 12 to 20 ton machine, Fecon builds three Bull Hog heads. The BH47EXC-1V has a 37 inch working width and suits 12 to 20 ton carriers. The BH62EXC-1V and BH62EXC-2V both run a 50 inch working width and are matched to 15 to 20 ton machines. The deciding factor is not the tonnage on its own but the auxiliary hydraulic flow your machine can supply, so check that first.
The heads on this page are built for 27 to 75 GPM at up to 6,000 PSI. The BH47EXC-1V and BH62EXC-1V run on 27 to 50 GPM using a single 107cc variable displacement motor. The BH62EXC-2V takes 40 to 75 GPM through a 160cc motor. Because the motor is variable displacement, it adjusts rotor speed against torque to suit what you are cutting rather than running flat out, which is why matching flow correctly matters more than simply having more of it.
There is no difference. They are two names for the same attachment. You will also hear mulcher head, mastication head and forestry masticator. All of them describe a hydraulically driven rotor with replaceable teeth that grinds standing vegetation into mulch on site. The term you hear depends more on the region and the trade than on the machine.
The heads in this class run from 2,400 lbs for the BH47EXC-1V up to 2,750 lbs for the BH62EXC-2V. Weight matters more than most buyers expect, because the attachment hangs at the end of the boom. Check the figure against your excavator’s rated lift capacity at full reach rather than the capacity quoted close to the machine.
It can if it is mismatched. The two ways it happens are supplying more hydraulic flow than the motor is rated for, which damages the motor, and hanging a head that is too heavy for the machine’s lift capacity at reach, which puts stress on the boom and affects stability on slopes. Both are avoided by matching the head to the carrier at the point of purchase, which is what a Fecon dealer will do for you before you buy.
