Frequently Asked Questions
A deck mulcher is a forestry attachment built to cut brush, saplings and light woody growth close to the ground. Fecon builds the FDM series wider than most conventional deck mulchers, so you cover more ground per pass. Common jobs include right of way clearing and maintenance, forestry clearing, site preparation, land improvement, highway mulching and urban interface work.
There are three models. The FDM62 cuts 62 inches wide, has a 69 inch overall width and weighs 1,950 lbs. The FDM74 cuts 74 inches, measures 81 inches overall and weighs 2,150 lbs. The FDM86 cuts 86 inches, measures 93 inches overall and weighs 2,450 lbs. Pick the width your carrier can handle comfortably.
The Fecon Deck Mulcher family runs on a flow range of 17 to 41 GPM, so it fits a wide spread of standard and high flow carriers. Check your machine’s rated auxiliary flow and pressure before ordering, and speak to a Fecon dealer if your carrier sits near either end of that range.
Yes. The FDM series uses a stump jumper design that lets the deck ride over stumps instead of catching on them, which removes the risk of shearing blade bolts. That is one reason it holds up well on rough, uncleared ground where hidden stumps and rocks are common.
On smaller material, yes. Fecon deck mulchers process small brush and light growth faster than traditional drum mulchers because the blades sweep a wide path in one pass. Drum mulchers still have the edge on larger standing stems and on finished particle size, which is why many contractors keep both in the fleet.
Fecon uses specially designed two sided blades, which effectively doubles blade service life because you get a second cutting edge without having to flip the blade. The extra blade mass also adds cutting inertia, so the deck keeps momentum in thicker material instead of bogging down.
Every Fecon Deck Mulcher carries the Fecon standard warranty of 12 months or 1,000 hours. Wear parts such as blades, blade carriers, bolts, skid shoes and cotter pins are available through the Fecon parts store, so you can keep the attachment working without long downtime.
